About the museum
The Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo was created in February 1990 as an institution devoted to the research, conservation, promotion and dissemination of contemporary art and to building a permanent collection. In 1997 it moved into the former Monastery of La Cartuja, which also meant the incorporation of the Conjunto Monumental de la Cartuja and the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Sevilla, with their collections.
In 2018 two new spaces were added: the C3A Centro de Creación Contemporánea de Andalucía, based in Córdoba, and the Pabellón del Siglo XV, on the grounds of the former Cartuja, which is being renovated mainly to house the collection store and display.
The centre runs a broad programme of temporary exhibitions, educational activities, courses, workshops, concerts, film cycles and lectures, and promotes the study and encouragement of contemporary artistic creation from Andalusia, Spain and abroad.
