About the museum
The Museo Natural de Olivos Milenarios del Pou del Mas is in the north of the municipal area of La Jana, in the Baix Maestrat region. La Jana has some 970 millennial olive trees, and this site brings together 21 specimens on less than one hectare.
The museum was set up on a small part of a private estate, thanks to an agreement between the owner, the town council, the cooperative and the Mancomunitat Taula del Sénia. The walking route is marked with nine panels presenting the most important trees and their measurements; among them stand out olive tree no. 106, called “el olivo de las parejas” (the olive tree of the couples), and the Farga del Pou del Mas (no. 117), which according to a study by the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid was planted in the year 833.
At the entrance there is a panel explaining the museum and the itinerary, as well as information about the oil produced by these olive trees.
