About the museum

Peru Harri, also called the Museo de la Piedra (Stone Museum), is a space devoted to stone, created by the harrijasotzaile (stone-lifter) Iñaki Perurena together with his son Inaxio, at the Gorrittenea farmhouse, about two kilometres from Leitza. The farmhouse, more than three hundred years old, was acquired by Perurena in his youth and restored by the family.

The visit combines an open-air route across a sloping meadow, where large stone sculptures stand, with an exhibition inside the farmhouse. Among the outdoor pieces the Cantero Gigante (giant stonemason), about eight metres tall, stands out, and the route includes a catapult, a cave, a walk through Basque mythology and a children's area with a dragon.

Inside, photographs, sportswear, mementos and, above all, the stones that Perurena used and collected, of very different shapes and weights, are on display. Perurena himself often guides the visit, which is participatory.
