About the museum
The Leitzaran Visitor Centre is in Otieta park in Andoain, at the entrance to the Plazaola-Leitzaran greenway. It brings together the Water Interpretation Centre (Centro de Interpretación del Agua), which shows the natural and cultural values of the Leitzaran river valley, and the Fishing School, where catch-and-release sport fishing is taught, with a casting area and a fishing ground (coto).
The Leitzaran valley has been a protected biotope since 1995 and stands out for the quality of its waters and its well-preserved riverbanks. Iron working was established in the valley with forges and mills from the 14th century onwards, and the building of the railway in 1904, linked to the Bizkotx mine, transformed the valley; today its route is the Plazaola-Leitzaran greenway.
According to the Turismo de Euskadi listing, the centre has six rooms, an exhibition area, a video room, a library and capacity for 75 people. As well as visits, it offers bicycle hire, guided tours of the valley and the greenway, a guided via ferrata and programmes for schools, groups and companies.
