About the museum
The museum is dedicated to San Valentín de Berriotxoa (Balendin Berriotxoa), born in Elorrio and co-patron of Bizkaia, a Dominican missionary martyred in Tonkin, present-day Vietnam, in 1862. It was originally set up in the saint's birthplace and since 1966 has occupied rooms in the Santa Ana convent in Elorrio. The current facilities were inaugurated in 2003 on the ground floor of the convent.
The visit follows the saint's life: his childhood and family in Elorrio, his training at the seminary in Logroño, his move to the Philippines and his missionary work in Tonkin, up to his martyrdom and the return of his relics to Bizkaia. The collection brings together documents, photographs, maps, handwritten texts, paintings, goldsmith's and textile pieces and personal objects related to the saint.
The route ends with panels on the beatification and canonisation process.
