About the museum
The Museu Alzamora arose from the interest of Pere Alzamora i Carbonell, founder of the cardboard packaging company Alzamora, in bringing together the evolution of the graphic arts in a single space. He organised it together with Sebastián Vives and Oserín, a former employee of the company, and it opened in 2011. It occupies a large room on the ground floor of the Alzamora Packaging factory in Sant Joan les Fonts.
Its collection brings together printing machinery unique in Catalonia, with pieces ranging from the 17th century to the late 20th century. According to the company itself, it is the most complete private collection on this subject in Spain. The route is ordered by type and chronology: at the entrance are printing machines from different periods, including the cast-iron hand press “Columbian”, patented in 1817; followed by flatbed machines, already electrified, old lithographic presses with stones prepared for printing, and a collection of guillotines, from the manual models of the 19th century to those powered by motor.
The walls are hung with posters, printed matter, leaflets, books and boxes that show the variety of printing work, as well as a photographic display on the evolution of the Alzamora family. The company invites visitors to arrange a visit by contacting its team.
