About the museum
Camprodon pays tribute to its most illustrious son, the composer and pianist Isaac Albéniz (1860–1909), in a biographical museum created in 1998 from donations by his descendants. Since 2021 it has been run by the Associació d'Amics del MIAC, which replaced the public foundation that had been set up together with the museum. The house where Albéniz was born is at Plaça de la Vila, 7.
The exhibition recreates the atmosphere in which the artist lived and brings together extensive documentation on his work: original handwritten scores and facsimiles, among them the Suite Iberia, personal correspondence, books from the family library, personal objects, paintings, portraits and photographs from various periods. Among the letters are examples of his relationships with musicians such as Pau Casals, Enric Granados, Gabriel Fauré and Alfred Cortot.
Among the most valued pieces are the upright piano of his elder sister Clementina, on which the child Isaac played his first notes at the age of two or three, and the grand Bechstein piano that the English patron and librettist Money-Coutts gave to Enriqueta, the composer's daughter, on the occasion of her wedding. The bedroom the musician had in Paris, which he took with him on his tours of France, is also shown. The museum is a small representation of the life of a great composer and is complemented by the festival and music course that Camprodon devotes to Albéniz every year.
