About the museum
The Museu Can Tinturé holds the collection of sample tiles assembled by Salvador Miquel, which the Baix Llobregat tourism portal describes as the first museum in the world devoted to this type of object. These are pieces that were used as wall cladding in homes in Barcelona, Catalonia and the Iberian Peninsula from the medieval period until the manufacture of such tiles was industrialised.
The museum occupies Can Tinturé, a late 19th-century house on Carrer de l'Església, and forms part of the Museus d'Esplugues, which comprise two venues, Can Tinturé and La Rajoleta, with the same subject matter, complementing each other in a shared discourse on building ceramics.
Besides the permanent exhibition, Can Tinturé stages temporary exhibitions, guided visits, educational activities for schools and programmes for families. It has an auditorium, workshop classrooms and a shop.
