About the museum
The Museu del Port de Tarragona was founded in 2000 with the aim of conserving and disseminating the maritime heritage of the Tarragona coast and, in particular, the port heritage of the city. It is run by the Port Authority of Tarragona and is located on the Moll de Costa, an area of the port specialised in civic and cultural uses.
On 17 July 2021 the Port de Tarragona opened the new museum, a renovated space with a modern, immersive museum concept that, with the help of advanced technological means, lets visitors learn about the past and present of the maritime and port world. For more than twenty years it has welcomed thousands of visitors and tourists.
The museum is part of the Register of Museums of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Network of Museums of the comarcas of Tarragona and the Terres de l'Ebre, the System of the Museu de la Ciència i de la Tècnica de Catalunya, Mar de Museus and the Association of Mediterranean Maritime Museums. It has a library, an assembly hall and an educational service that introduces schoolchildren to the daily activity of a commercial, fishing and leisure port.
