About the museum
The Museu del Traginer, also called the Colección Antoni Ros, is devoted to the traginers, the carriers with draught animals who for centuries linked farmhouses, villages and cities across Catalonia and exchanged goods and information. With the Industrial Revolution the horse was replaced by the motor vehicle and the figure of the traginer was transformed into that of the modern haulier, although its legacy lives on in the Tres Tombs festival.
The museum holds the collection assembled by Antoni Ros, made up of tools, utensils, carts, carriages, saddles and harnesses related to the transport trades in modern Catalonia, as well as sculptures by Ros himself. A foundation set up by the Ros family protects and promotes these holdings and researches the identity features that the traginer's trade represents in the Anoia region and across Catalonia.
The route is spread over three floors: the ground floor deals with the trades and the evolution of the roads; the first floor brings together harnesses and carts of all kinds; and the second floor has twelve carriages and the hall devoted to the work of Antoni Ros. The foundation has also made accessibility a special priority and has signed an agreement with the ONCE (Spain's national organisation for the blind) to facilitate visits by blind and partially sighted people.
