About the museum

The Museu del Tresor brings together the art collection that the Chapter of Girona Cathedral has preserved and enriched over the centuries. It is located in the cathedral's buildings and is visited with the cathedral ticket, together with the 12th-century cloister and the basilica of Sant Feliu.

The collection is spread over four rooms with pieces from very different periods, techniques and styles, many of them fundamental to the history of art. The best-known piece is the Tapís de la Creació, an exceptional Romanesque embroidery from the 11th and 12th centuries that illustrates the story of Genesis. Alongside it are the 10th-century Beatus manuscript, the casket of Hixam II, the sculpture of Sant Carlemany, the seal of Countess Ermessenda de Carcassona and a valuable collection of Gothic sculpture, painting and silverwork, as well as the Renaissance altarpiece of Santa Elena, from the 16th century.

The treasury visit complements the cathedral visit, with its great nave, the presbytery with the cathedra and the 11th-century altar slab (ara), the canopy and high altar in goldsmiths' work of the 14th century, and the stained-glass window by Sean Scully inaugurated in 2011.
