About the museum

The Museu Eròtic de Barcelona opened its doors in 1997 in a building on La Rambla, opposite the Boqueria market. It is a private museum presenting a historical and cultural tour of the influence of eroticism on human societies, and it draws on Barcelona's tradition as a city open to artists, travellers and diversity.

The collection exceeds 800 pieces, including paintings, photographs, sculptures and inventions, spread across 14 rooms. The route begins with ancient civilisations and Eastern eroticism, includes the Kama Sutra, world cultures and 19th- and 20th-century European eroticism, and continues with themes such as pin-up culture, the great masters of painting, “Picasso erótico”, fetishism, the phallic tradition, corsets, and dolls and machines of the 20th century.

One room is devoted to the private collection of erotic films of King Alfonso XIII, and the route ends in the so-called Jardín Erótico. In addition to the permanent exhibition, the museum organises events, guided visits for groups and themed activities, and it runs its own shop.
