About the museum
Sintonía Arrecifal is a land art and museography project by the artists Rober Garay and Alber Palomera, who work under the name LePatafisic Cabinet. It began in 2017 with the Domo in Busturia, and a year later it extended to the red marble quarries of Ereño, in Urdaibai, where they created the Galería-Observatorio de Arte y Naturaleza Ereño Behatokia, an open-air museum that forms part of the Bizkaia museum network.
The ensemble brings together around ten installations inspired by the creatures that lived in the reef more than 200 million years ago, which gave rise to Ereño's red marble. These include the Domo Pictomecanismo, the Pinacoteca Triásica, the Rosa de los Vientos Nautilus, the Alas Meganeuras, the Gabinete Sonoro, the Registro Fósil Devónico and La Mirada Antigua.
The project was completed with the Museo de Interpretación Sintonía Arrecifal (Ereño Museoa), opened in 2022 in a small hórreo (raised granary) in the village. Visitors go through it at their own pace with audiovisual explanations and pieces that recover the archaic era of the reef, such as a sound cabinet, old photographs of Ereño residents and a time capsule. Among the recent objects is the jaw of a blue whale donated by scientists from Ondarroa.
