About the museum
Åryds bruk was founded in 1644 by Nils Rosenquist with the help of Dutch part-owners. Around 1690 the works had a blast furnace, hammers and mills. Johan Lorentz Aschan bought it in 1823, and iron production ceased in the 1880s; in 1898 the works officially ceased to be an ironworks. Tingstads Trävaru AB bought the estate in 1903 and invested in timber products, and Edwin Ohlsson donated it to the Skogssällskapet (Forest Society) in 1924.
Parts of the ironworks environment are preserved, including the blast furnace. The works environment is included in the list of working-life museums drawn up by the Arbetslivsmuseernas samarbetsråd (Working-Life Museums Cooperation Council), and on the site is Café Masugnen, which is open in summer.
