About the museum
Apladalen is a nature and heritage park of 22 hectares in the middle of Värnamo. The initiative for the park was taken by Värnamo hembygdsförening (Värnamo local heritage society), which leased land from the parsonage (prästgården), and it has moved the cottages here. The cottages from the 18th and 19th centuries tell of crafts and trades such as shoemaking, brass founding, wire drawing and pottery.
In the middle of the park lies Prästgården (the Parsonage), a museum with a preserved interior from a 19th-century parsonage, and a herb garden with beekeeping. Outside stands the statue of the loving couple Per and Kersti from Carl Snoilsky’s poem “På Wernamo marknad” (At the Wernamo market). In the Marknadsstugan (market cottage) local craftspeople show and sell their products, mainly in summer.
The park has large green areas, several hundred-year-old oaks, walking paths and Värnamo’s largest playground. In summer, goats, sheep, rabbits and hens are kept in enclosures, and music and concerts are held on the outdoor stage. Groups can book a guided tour through the local heritage society.
