About the museum

The first Bruksmuseum in Fagersta was created on the works site, and most of the collections were later donated to Fagersta Municipality. Thanks to cooperation between local business and the cultural administration, the collections moved in 1993 into the present premises in Fagersta's former fire station. The building was designed by Cyrillus Johansson and has typical details from him.

The collections deal with the town of Fagersta and the history of the works, with an emphasis on the 20th century. The basic exhibition shows products from Fagersta Bruk's workshops from the late 19th century to the 1980s, including metallurgy, rolled products, drawn wire and cables, pipes, saw blades, blades and hard metal from the Fagersta group from 1927 to 1983. Part of the exhibition stand from the Paris World Exhibition of 1900 has been reconstructed, and models and photographs show how the town and the works looked. A large panoramic overview of the works area from 1913–1922 was produced in Leipzig for the then German owner, Senator Possehl.

The museum also contains a reconstructed office with furniture and objects from the old office, and a room about the four companies that continued parts of the works' manufacturing. The works' film and photo archive is part of the collections. The museum has been renovated and received a new basic exhibition for Fagersta's 60th anniversary. The association Bruksmusei Vänner (Friends of the Works Museums) looks after the museum, and it is currently closed for conversion carried out by the owner, Fagersta Municipality.
