About the museum
Glasets Hus lies beside Limmared glassworks, which was founded in 1740 by Gustaf Ruthensparre and is considered Sweden’s oldest working glassworks. At the end of the 19th century Fredrik Brusewitz became involved, and the works was given a railway connection. In the 20th century it became a limited company and made, among other things, utility glass, window glass and pharmacy bottles. Today the works is owned by Ardagh Group and makes bottles for ABSOLUT, among others.
Glasets Hus is an experience house next to the works. The glass museum shows glass from Limmared from the 18th century up to today’s bottle, with, among other things, a hand-blown chandelier, hand-painted goblets, older utility glass and engraved objects. In a small cinema a film about the modern glassworks is shown, and for children there is a quest-based experience, Barnens Glasrike (The Children’s Glass Kingdom).
The house also has a glass workshop where you can watch glassblowers at work and try blowing an object of your own, an exhibition hall with art, a shop, a café in a winter garden, and rooms for conferences and parties. The house also serves as tourist information.
