About the museum
The Nobel Prize Museum is at street level in the Börshuset on Stortorget, in the heart of Gamla stan, and is about the Nobel Prize, the discoveries that have been rewarded with it and the people behind them. In his will Alfred Nobel wrote that the prize should go to those who had contributed to the benefit of humankind. The museum brings the laureates and their stories to life, from the early 20th century to the present day.
The starting point is the unique combination of subjects in the Nobel Prize: natural science, literature, peace work and economics. The museum shows that ideas can change the world and invites visitors to exhibitions, school programmes, lectures and conversations about the great issues of our time.
The exhibition Sakerna som förändrar världen (The Things That Change the World) features unique objects that once belonged to Nobel laureates. They carry stories of freedom fighters, writers and researchers who have all contributed to a better world. Visitors can take a guided tour, listen to the audio guide or watch films about the laureates in the film room.
The exhibition areas are on street level, together with a restaurant, a museum shop and a play room for children. On the floor above are the premises of the Swedish Academy, and the museum also has a smaller area for temporary exhibitions.
