About the museum
The Feuerwehrmuseum Kradolf-Schönenberg began with the enthusiastic firefighter Werner Farni (1943–1993) from Kradolf. From 1956 on he collected old documents, uniforms, personal items of equipment, devices and hand-pump fire carts and kept them at home. In 1978 the collection moved into a former shop premises.
In 1982 the Stiftung Feuerwehrmuseum Kradolf-Schönenberg was founded, which has since looked after all matters concerning the museum. Thanks to public and private support, the pieces have been displayed since 1990 in the current premises on Bahnhofstrasse.
The collection is shown over two floors covering around 500 square meters. The inventory comprises more than 2,000 systematically catalogued exhibits; the oldest date from the 17th century. On display are documents, uniforms, equipment, tools, devices and fire vehicles, which illustrate vividly how firefighting has changed over the centuries. Regular special exhibitions complement the permanent display. Admission fees and donations benefit the museum in full.
