About the museum
The Bischofszell church treasury is housed in the sacristy of the former collegiate church and today’s Catholic parish church of St. Pelagius, and has been accessible since 1968. The collegiate foundation goes back to an establishment in the 10th century, which later gave the town its name; the present church dates from the 14th and 15th centuries and was used by both denominations from 1535 to 1968.
On display are chalices, ciboria, monstrances, reliquaries, candlesticks, small jugs and plates by German and Swiss masters from the late Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo periods. Particular treasures include a censer made in Augsburg in the 15th or 16th century, which comes from the Kloster St. Katharinental, and the so-called “Kindlimord” chalice of 1712/13 by the goldsmith Hans Georg Ohnsorg.
Visits are possible by appointment; enquiries are handled through the Pfarreisekretariat Bischofszell (parish office).
