About the museum
The Greisinger Museum is a non-profit foundation in Jenins, one of the four municipalities of the Bündner Herrschaft, a wine-growing region in the canton of Graubünden. It houses the Greisinger Collection, the private collection of its founder Bernd Greisinger on Tolkien's Middle-earth.
Construction of the building began in mid-2008; planning and execution were geared towards presenting the collection from the outset. The rooms are mostly underground and designed so that visitors feel as if they are moving through Middle-earth. The entrance leads through the door of a hobbit hole in the garden. The museum first opened its doors to Tolkien fans on 4 October 2013.
The collection consists mainly of art and literature, along with collectibles of all kinds. According to the Graubünden tourism portal, it comprises over 3,500 books by and about Tolkien as well as around 600 drawings and paintings by about 100 artists. The museum is visited in guided groups.
