About the museum
The Lawena Museum in Triesen presents the history of electricity. It is housed in the operations building of the Lawena power station, which was built in the 1920s and is still in operation; the power station itself is part of the tour. The museum is run by the association “Pro Lawena Museum”, founded in July 2011. Its volunteer members are all former employees of the Liechtensteinische Kraftwerke; they design the exhibition, maintain the exhibits and guide visitors.
On display are objects dating back to 1900: electrical household appliances, lighting, entertainment and communication technology, personal care and electromedical devices, as well as a large collection of measuring instruments. Of the roughly 950 objects, about half are on display, and many can be demonstrated in operation. A themed exhibition on electrical household appliances from 1910 onward is located on the third and fourth floors. In 2015 the museum received a donation from the Liechtenstein Physical Society.
The permanent exhibition “Elektrifizierung Liechtensteins” tells the story of life without electricity, the electrification of the first factories and the construction of the first power station, up to today’s power supply based on renewable energy.
