Limited operations. No regular visitor operation: the building opens only on Open Weekends, for special events and for the Long Night of Museums; the exhibitions of the Digital Museum of Learning run online.

About the museum

The building on the Seefeldquai is Villa Ernst, built in 1913 by the architect Otto Honegger for the engineer Fritz Ernst-Curty and surrounded by a garden. It opened in 1984 as the Jacobs Suchard Museum; Klaus J. Jacobs had originally set it up as a coffee museum. Later it took a more general view of the history and present of global trade routes. A wall frieze with objects recalls this focus.

In 2011 the villa was remodelled by the architects Miller & Maranta. In September 2022 the museum reinvented itself: it belongs to the Jacobs Foundation and has since put learning and education at its centre. The building houses the Digital Museum of Learning, whose interactive exhibitions are mainly to be seen online. Physically, the villa opens on special occasions, such as Open Weekends, events for children, families and school classes, and the Long Night of Zurich Museums.
