About the museum
Villa Bellerive in Zurich's Seefeld district was designed by the Berlin architect Alfred Breslauer and built in 1931 by Zurich architect Erhard Gull for textile manufacturer Julius Bloch. It served as a residence until 1967; from 1968 the Museum Bellerive showed the applied arts collection of the Museum für Gestaltung here, and this exhibition operation ended in 2016/2017.
Since 2018, the ZAZ BELLERIVE Zentrum Architektur Zürich has used the villa. It is run by an association that goes back to an initiative of the Department of Architecture at ETH Zurich, the SIA Zurich section, the BSA Zurich local group and the Architekturforum Zürich; the City of Zurich provides the building and supports its operation.
ZAZ sees itself as a meeting place, exhibition space and event and outreach center for questions of building culture. Changing exhibitions, discussions, lectures, workshops and walks are aimed at a broad audience, not only at specialists. The house has a small shop with architecture and design books. In the neighborhood are the Pavillon Le Corbusier and the Atelier Hermann Haller.
