About the museum

The Lindt Home of Chocolate is located on Schokoladenplatz in Kilchberg, right next to the historic production site where Lindt & Sprüngli has been making chocolate since 1899. It is run by the Lindt Chocolate Competence Foundation, which opened it in September 2020 as a chocolate competence centre. In its second year of operation it already counted over half a million visitors, and in 2023, according to the foundation, there were 752,053.

The tour through the multimedia chocolate museum leads from the cocoa plantations in Ghana through the thousands-of-years-old history of chocolate in Central America, its journey to the European royal courts and the Swiss pioneers of the 19th century, to the making of chocolate today. In the glass-walled research facility visitors can follow how cocoa beans are turned into cocoa mass and liquid chocolate and then into bars and pralines. Tasting stations are placed along the way.

The building also includes a very large Lindt Chocolate Shop with a Maître station, a café, a chocolate fountain in the entrance hall, and rooms for courses and events. An audio guide accompanies visitors, and there is a separate audio track for children.
