About the museum
Shedhalle emerged in the mid-1980s from a group of Zurich artists who did not feel represented by the established art scene. They used the sawtooth-roofed hall on the grounds of the Rote Fabrik on Lake Zurich, which the city has run as a cultural and leisure centre since the early 1980s.
The house sees itself as a place where new artistic and cultural practices with socio-political connections are tested, produced and shown. Alongside exhibitions, performances, readings, workshops and discussions form part of the programme. Artists, activists, curators and theorists work together here in changing constellations.
Shedhalle has no collection and no permanent exhibition. The programme consists of successive exhibitions and event series that change several times a year. Members receive free admission to all exhibitions and events, as well as to further Swiss art institutions.
