About the museum
The museum (according to museums.ch, since 1991) tells the story of life in the mountain village of Amden. The village grew from a holding of the Schänis convent into a municipality. The exhibition introduces people who have shaped Amden and continue to do so, as well as events the population lived through. These include the 1974 rockslide, which is addressed in the permanent exhibition on the village's geology.
After the redesign in 2022, the house focuses on interactive stations on natural history, geology, the land and its people. Visitors can watch a cave-diving film through the Rinquelle live. The Rinquelle is one of the largest underground river systems in Europe. They can also listen to animal sounds and match them, and have their photo taken in front of Ammler photo backdrops. Children learn about the plant and animal life of the altitude zones, from the lake to the mountains. The gallery's art exhibitions change three times a year, and the museum also leads groups through the exhibition.
