About the museum

The Polizeimuseum Graubünden belongs to the Kantonspolizei Graubünden (Cantonal Police of Graubünden) and tells how the organized Landjäger corps of the 19th century developed into today's versatile Kantonspolizei. The exhibition covers roughly two centuries of police history in the canton.

The newly designed museum at Comercialstrasse 19 in Chur was officially opened in September 2014; the newly reorganized Fachstelle Prävention (Prevention Office) moved into its premises at the same location. The design involved Beat Stutzer, former director of the Bündner Kunstmuseum, and the museum technicians Stephan Schenk and Roy Perfler. Since October 2014, individuals have been able to visit the museum without registration on the first Tuesday of every month.

On display are historical wanted posters, historical documents, old and current uniforms and weapons, and evidence from sensational criminal cases up to the most recent ones, including burglary tools, a suitcase with a false bottom from cash smuggling, and weapons used in crimes. A walk-through also shows the rapid development of road traffic, a separate display case explains questions about narcotics, and a small police cinema shows short films about the work of the Kantonspolizei.
