About the museum
In the village of Guggisberg at the foot of the Guggershorn is set the story of Vreneli, which lives on in one of the best-known Swiss folk songs. Vreneli grew up on the "Linde" farm and loved Simes Hans-Joggeli, who, after a quarrel with the Zelg farmer, fled into foreign military service. The girl stayed behind with her longing, and the song tells of her.
The Vreneli-Museum, run by the association of the same name, makes this story tangible. On three floors it shows everyday objects and background on the village of Guggisberg, including original Guggisberg costumes. On the tour you also learn how the municipality has developed since Roman times.
In the new room on the former stage of the farmhouse, two donated collections can be seen: costume dolls handmade by a woman from Kallnach, and 21 model houses from all over Switzerland at a scale of 1:60 by Edwin Kistler of Cham. Over 1000 objects in the museum have been recorded electronically and can be searched online. The museum is visited with volunteer guides.
