About the museum
Bridgeton Bus Garage is the home of the Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust, a Scottish charity (SC034066) run by volunteers. It keeps a collection of more than 130 historic buses, coaches, lorries and fire appliances, mostly vehicles of the Glasgow Corporation transport fleet plus other commercial vehicles. Each vehicle has its own history, photographs and restoration notes on the Trust’s website.
A Museum and Archive exhibition shows items from the Trust’s archive, which was established by the late Brian Longworth to care for historic items donated to the Trust. The collection includes photographs, timetables, posters, books, staff uniforms, bus destination blinds, tickets and ticket machines, company records, and objects from the Glasgow tram, trolleybus and underground systems.
The garage is not open every day. Visitors come on Super Sundays, the Annual Open Weekend and other open days, which often include free rides on historic buses, and on pre-booked guided tours of the garage and collection. The Trust is a member of the National Association of Road Transport Museums and is supported by Museums Galleries Scotland.
