About the museum
Buckley Library, Museum and Gallery stands in the Precinct in the centre of Buckley, Flintshire. The museum occupies the upper floor of the library and focuses on the industrial past of the area, above all the pottery and brick making that made the town known from medieval times into the 20th century.
The displays were redeveloped in a project called Buckley Sharing Treasures, funded by the Welsh Government and the Heritage Lottery Fund, and the museum was formally reopened in September 2017. The project allowed objects to be borrowed from National Museums Liverpool, so the ceramics display changes from time to time.
The centrepiece is the Martin Harrison Collection of Buckley pottery, bought with help from the V&A Purchase Grant Fund and the Art Fund. Other displays look at local landmarks and social history, and the gallery shows paintings by the local artist James Bentley (1921-2004), whose work records the industrial and maritime heritage of Flintshire. The Buckley Society holds regular sessions here where people share local memories.
