About the museum
Cloverlands Model Car Museum grew from a childhood collection that began with two model cars, a Jaguar SS and an Alvis, given to a young girl by her father. As an adult she added to it for decades,.
The collection was first shown to the public in Montgomery, in the Montgomery Institute on Arthur Street, from about 2015. It continued to grow, helped by a further collection of around 300 mint and boxed cars from Canada and a large Shropshire collection discovered in 2013. The museum is a registered charity and is supported by a Friends group.
In 2022 the collection moved to Llanfair Caereinion in Powys, and the museum reopened that June at the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway terminus, in the Llanfair Connections visitor centre. Its founders Gillian Rogers and Roy Marthews both died in December 2021 and did not see the new premises. Today the trustees describe it as the largest public collection of model cars in Wales, with about 20 collections and more than 5,500 exhibits.
