About the museum
The Crab Museum is run by Crab Museum CIC, a not-for-profit community interest company, and describes itself as the first and only museum in Europe devoted to decapods, the group of crustaceans that includes crabs, lobsters and shrimp. It is on the first floor of 9 Broad Street in Margate Old Town, above the Pie Factory Gallery.
The museum presents natural history with a light touch. Its displays cover crab biology, climate change and evolutionary history, and tell stories such as that of the giant Margate crab. It also runs events, talks and performances, and sells crab-themed gifts and zines in its shop.
Entry is free and the museum relies on donations. It states that it will never charge an admission fee.
