About the museum
Cupar Museum and Heritage Centre is housed in the former station house at the east end of Cupar railway station, just off platform two. The station building is a category B listed structure from the nineteenth century. The museum was founded in 2012 and tells the story of the town and its surroundings for local people and visitors.
The first room on the ground floor, called the Story of Cupar, follows the history of the area from the Pictish period and the Middle Ages through the town’s rise as a royal burgh and market town, the developments of the nineteenth century and more recent events. A second room is used for changing themed displays, for example on past local industries, institutions, notable people and traditions.
The heritage centre looks after photographs, documents, paintings, maps, press cuttings and objects connected with Cupar, including collections such as Classic Cupar and the Duffus Collection. Volunteers welcome visitors, answer questions and handle research enquiries about the local past.
