About the museum

Diseworth Heritage Centre occupies the former Baptist chapel of Diseworth, a village in north-west Leicestershire. The Baptist church was built in 1752 and was badly flooded in 2000. After a long period of repair and refurbishment, interrupted by the pandemic, the building reopened as a community and heritage centre.

The main hall holds a small museum of artefacts, documents, pictures and memorabilia about Diseworth and the neighbouring village of Long Whatton. Exhibitions on village life are held through the year, and the centre is an accredited museum with a large collection of local photographs. The centre also sells locally researched books and self-guided heritage trails covering Diseworth, its parish church and Long Whatton.

Besides the museum, the building is hired out for meetings, training and private functions, and it has a quiet sanctuary garden beside Diseworth brook.
