About the museum
The museum grew out of the Kegworth Village Association, a charity formed in 1971 by local people who wanted to raise money for a village museum. In 1990 the group bought a former group of farmyard barns and cowsheds on the High Street, and after a major refurbishment Kegworth Museum opened in 1992 as a registered charity. The two charities were later merged, and in 2017 the museum took its present name, Kegworth Heritage Centre.
Building repairs began in 2018, but the pandemic then closed the museum and most of its volunteers and board members left. A new board and a new team of volunteers rebuilt the museum from 2023. The ground-floor gallery reopened at Easter 2024 with lighter, more spacious and more interactive displays, and the upper floor followed in 2025 once the fire escape had been repaired.
The collection covers everyday life, local trades and community events in Kegworth and the surrounding area. A recent addition is the Robert Williams Collection of archaeological finds from the village's Roman and medieval past. The centre was awarded full Arts Council museum accreditation in February 2026.

Larger electric wheelchairs may not fit through the main door; staff can arrange entry and exit through the fire door at the rear. The upper gallery can only be reached by the internal staircase, so the centre offers a short video of the upstairs displays on a tablet on request and will try to bring individual objects down. Handling collections and the Williams Collection are always displayed on the ground floor. Toilets are described as accessible to all visitors.
