About the museum
The Fochabers Folk Museum and Heritage Centre opened in 1984 in a former Gothic church on the High Street of Fochabers. It is run entirely by volunteers of the charity Fochabers Heritage and shows the way of life and traditions of north-east Scotland in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
The museum is known for its collection of gigs and horse-drawn carriages, which fills an upper gallery. On the ground floor, visitors find a recreated Victorian shop, a post office display, antique mantel clocks, vintage cameras and a collection of everyday objects. A recreated nineteenth-century classroom in the annexe recalls Milne's Free School.
Other displays look at local fashion, with dresses from the 1950s and 1960s, and at the two world wars. One exhibition covers RAF Dallachy, the nearby airfield used in the Second World War, and there is First World War memorabilia.
