About the museum
The Treasury Museum belongs to St Sophia’s Greek Orthodox Cathedral on Moscow Road in Bayswater, which London’s Greek community built between 1877 and 1879 to designs by John Oldrid Scott. The church was consecrated in 1882 and became a cathedral of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain in 1922. It is a Grade I listed building.
In 2006 the area beneath the sanctuary was converted into a small museum. The project was carried out under Bishop Theodoritos of Nazianzou and funded by a donation from the A. G. Leventis Foundation.
The museum shows vestments, books and silverware from the cathedral’s collection. Visits to the museum are arranged by appointment.
