About the museum
Guisborough Museum opened in 1989 to tell the story of Guisborough, an ancient market town. It is run entirely by volunteers and is looked after by a registered charity, Guisborough Museum Limited.
The museum occupies three adjoining rooms in the old stable block behind Sunnyfield House on Westgate. Next door, the house itself holds the museum archives, a large collection of photographs and records about the social history of the town.
The displays show how local people lived and worked. They include a reconstructed pawnbroker's shop and chemist's shop, the old town stocks, and a popular railway exhibition with a scale model of the former stations. Other displays cover school days, model houses and local people involved in the two World Wars, and the volunteers prepare new displays every year.
