About the museum
Mathewsons began in 1970 as a car dealer in Bedfordshire and moved to North Yorkshire in 1988. Over the years its owner, Derek Mathewson, built up a large private collection of vintage and classic vehicles, and the business turned to classic cars full time.
The museum is at Roxby Garage in Thornton-le-Dale, where the family also runs a gift shop. After a closure it was reopened following many requests from visitors. The company now holds classic car auctions at a site in Pickering and appears in the television series Bangers & Cash.
The museum shows a selection of vehicles from the family collection, which the company describes as including classic cars, motorbikes, commercial vehicles and a large amount of motoring memorabilia.
