About the museum
The Saatchi Gallery has presented contemporary art since 1985. In its early decades its exhibitions drew on the collection of Charles Saatchi, and the gallery became known worldwide for introducing artists who later gained international recognition. It has been a separate organisation from the online business Saatchi Art since 2014, and in 2019 it became a registered charity, beginning a new chapter as a self-funded platform for contemporary art and culture.
Today the gallery is housed in the Grade II listed Duke of York's HQ on King's Road in Chelsea, a building spread over three floors with 13 galleries. It has no permanent display; instead it stages a programme of changing exhibitions. Some ground-floor exhibitions are free to enter, while larger shows are ticketed.
The gallery also runs a learning programme with a studio, a Learning Gallery for the artwork of schools and community groups, and talks, courses and workshops. Family days and evening Lates are held alongside major exhibitions. The building can also be hired for private and corporate events, with the income supporting the gallery's charitable mission.
