About the museum
Swinford Museum is a small local museum in the Oxfordshire village of Filkins. It was founded in 1931 by George Swinford, who had the support of Sir Stafford Cripps, and it still carries his name. The collection is kept in a cottage that dates from the 17th century.
The displays show how people in and around the village lived and worked in earlier times. They bring together domestic, agricultural, trade and craft tools and objects of everyday use that were once found in the parishes of Filkins and Broughton Poggs.
Today the museum is run as a registered charity with a small group of trustees. Its stated purpose is to look after the collection and to show it to the public.
