About the museum
The Nally Heritage Centre belongs to the Carrickmore club An Charraig Mhór Naomh Colmcille, a Gaelic Athletic Association club in the parish of Termonmaguirc in mid Tyrone. It was officially opened on 22 March 2009 and presents social, economic, political, sporting and geographical aspects of the local area, supported by objects from early times to the present day.
The centre is named after P. W. Nally, a figure in the early Gaelic Athletic Association. The club looks after the original Nally Stand from Croke Park, and one display follows Nally's sporting and political life from his youth in County Mayo to his death in Kilmainham Gaol in Dublin.
Other displays cover the parish's sporting tradition, the influence of churches, schools and housing on everyday life, local transport, the railway, pottery, wool-making and quarrying, farming, the changing townlands of the parish, and two early twentieth-century political figures from the area, Joseph McGarrity and Dr Patrick McCartan. Audiovisual material and touch-screen stations let visitors research topics of their own. The centre says its exhibitions are changed from time to time.
