About the museum
The Warner Textile Archive preserves the heritage of Warner and Sons, a luxury textile manufacturer whose history stretches back to the seventeenth century. The archive is housed in the original Warner’s Mill buildings in the centre of the town.
The collection numbers more than 100,000 items, covering the company’s products and the people who designed them. It is looked after by the Braintree District Museum Trust, which also runs Braintree Museum.
The archive itself is open by appointment only. The building has a reception area, a study room and the archive on one level, and visitors can arrange research visits, group visits and talks, or school visits. The public gallery about Warner and Sons is at Braintree Museum, where a selection of the collection is shown, and the archive also runs events and sells textile products through an online shop.
