Over het museum

Naturkraft opened on June 12, 2020 northwest of Ringkøbing as an adventure park about nature, climate, and sustainability. The project cost around DKK 250 to 300 million. The guiding idea is how people in West Jutland have lived with and fought against wind, water, sand, and storm surges over the centuries.

The architecture is distinctive: an almost 630-meter-long ring rampart up to 13 meters high encloses the park, and the main building of about 5,500 square meters is built into the rampart. The grounds cover 45 hectares, including eight landscape zones from oak scrub and forest garden through marsh, dunes, and heath to a forest with plants from earlier geological ages. About 20 hectares of flowering grassland provide habitat for bees, butterflies, and other insects.

After a difficult start with significantly fewer visitors than planned, Ringkøbing Fjord Museer took over operations in February 2022; two foundations remain the owners. Since then Naturkraft has been part of the state-recognized museum and combines nature experience with cultural history, for example on the straightening and renaturation of the Skjern Å or the history of wind power. As the first attraction in West Jutland, Naturkraft was certified as a Green Attraction and was recognized by the Danish beekeepers' association as a bee-friendly business.
