Beperkt geopend (naar verwachting tot 2027-07). Since July 8, 2026, the permanent collections of the modern building have been closed for renovation. The estate remains open: listed Bresse farm, exhibition in the farm, park, shop and café. Reduced rates apply during the works.

Over het museum

The Domaine des Saveurs – Les Planons occupies a former farm of more than 40 hectares, 22 of which are open to visitors today. The Ain departmental council bought the estate in 1989 to create a museum there. The Bresse farm, listed as a historic monument since 1938, was restored in the 1990s, and the museum opened in 1995 under the name Musée départemental de la Bresse.

A building of 3,000 m² was constructed between 2002 and 2005. Partly sunk into the ground, it has a green roof that follows the terrain and leaves the farm in the foreground. Its large hall of about 1,000 m² presents the collections with coloured glass and a strong staging, with an ethnological view of the objects. The farm, with its Saracen chimney, gallery and half-timbered, wattle-and-daub and rammed-earth buildings, shows rural life before the modernisation of the countryside.

In 2020 the museum took its current name to highlight the gastronomy of the Ain and its exceptional products. Since July 8, 2026, the permanent collections of the modern building have been closed for a major renovation, due to be completed in July 2027. The estate remains open during the works, with the farm, the park and reduced rates.
