Over het museum

The FAMM opened on June 21, 2024, in the old village of Mougins, near Cannes. It occupies the building that previously housed the Musée d'art classique de Mougins. Its founder is the collector and patron Christian Levett, whose collection of paintings, sculptures, photographs and drawings consists exclusively of works by women artists.

The museum presents itself as the first museum in the world, outside the United States, to hold a permanent collection devoted to women artists. It aims to give them a more visible place in art history. The display spans more than 150 years of creation, from Impressionism to contemporary art, with around 100 works by more than 90 artists shown at the same time, drawn from a collection of about 750 works.

The display changes over the course of the year, as the museum regularly lends works to major institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Tate Modern and the Musée d'Orsay. Mougins attracted many artists in the 20th century, including Picasso, Man Ray and Coco Chanel. The museum publishes an official catalogue, released in May 2025, and offers a shop and guided tours.

The village is pedestrianised; a lift connects the car park for visitors with reduced mobility to the village, and visitors can be dropped off a few steps from the museum. The museum has four levels served by a glass lift, and the stairs have handrails. A wheelchair can be lent on request, and folding seats are available at the reception desk. The museum states that it is fully accessible to visitors with reduced mobility.

A family ticket is offered for 2 adults and at least 2 children. Admission is free for children under 10; those aged 10 to 17 pay a reduced rate.

Bereikbaarheid & parkeren

By car: motorway exit no. 42. Nice Côte d'Azur airport is about 30 minutes away by car; taxis and ride-hailing services are available at the terminal exit. The village is pedestrianised; a drop-off point is a few steps from the museum.
