La Graineterie

Over het museum

La Graineterie occupies a former farm in Houilles that later served as a grain trading business until the mid-20th century. The building has street façades, a large carriage gate, an inner courtyard and former stables. The town acquired it and converted it into a cultural hub, inaugurated in 2009.

The Houilles municipal art center produces and presents contemporary art exhibitions, events, publications and artist residencies. Its program brings together French and international artists with invited curators, set designers and graphic designers. About 350 m² are devoted to exhibitions in the courtyard, the attic and the stables.

The center carries on the Biennale de la jeune création, founded in 1997: a selection committee and a jury choose the artists, and the laureate receives a solo exhibition at the art center the following year. La Graineterie also shares its premises with Atelier 12, which offers visual arts classes, and runs artistic projects with nurseries, collèges and lycées.
