Over het museum
The Sartrouville history museum occupies two bright rooms in the Espace Saint-Paul, covering about 90 m². It traces the town’s development over the centuries through paintings, photographs and models.
The first room evokes Sartrouville of the past: a cardboard and cork model of the Saint-Martin church, 19th-century winegrowers’ costumes made by pupils of the Lycée Jules-Verne, the history of the mills, the population census since 1817, the National Guard, the Swiss Guards, General Demont and the development of the town hall since 1789. The town’s wine-growing past is illustrated by the family tree of one family over ten generations and by winegrowers’ tools. A retrospective also presents personalities linked to the town, such as Marthe Le Rochois, the Turgot and du Fresnay families, Guy de Maupassant or Saint Vincent de Paul.
The second room reconstructs the town’s former industries: aviation, from airships to seaplanes and the Potez 75, and the shipyards of the Blondeau, Jouët and Bastard families. Panels also tell the story of the bridges, the railway, the station, the post office, the embankment and the bombings of 1944. A display case is devoted to school life between 1913 and 1950, next to a collection of aircraft models.
