Over het museum

Pierre-Adrien Dalpayrat (1844–1910) was one of the figures behind the renewal of ceramics in Europe at the end of the 19th century. After working for several faience factories, mainly in the south of France, he opened his own studio in Bourg-la-Reine in 1889. There he developed colored glazes, including the famous “rouge Dalpayrat,” based on copper, and won gold medals at the World's Fairs in Chicago in 1893 and in Paris in 1900.

Bourg-la-Reine had up to seven faience studios in the 19th century, the best known being those of Dalpayrat and Laurin. The town has acquired several of their works. More than 120 pieces by Dalpayrat, the largest public collection of his work, are now displayed in the former family home.

The permanent display explores the influence of Art Nouveau on his work, the inventiveness of his forms, his mastery of the material and the development of rouge Dalpayrat. Another town collection of around 30 pieces by Laurin and Chaplet is kept at the Villa Saint-Cyr and can only be visited by appointment.
